Zelenskyy: Kursk disaster marks the beginning and end of Putin

"We see Russia under Putin actually moving: 24 years ago, there was the Kursk disaster (the sinking of a submarine), which was the symbolic beginning of his rule; and now we can see that it is the end for him. And Kursk is also the end. The catastrophe of his war. It always happens to those who despise people and any rules. Russia brought war to others, and now it is coming home. Ukraine has always wanted only peace, and we will definitely ensure peace," President Zelenskyy said.


Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi says Ukraine controls nearly 1,000 square kilometers of Russia

On 12 August 2024, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, conducted a Meeting of the Staff. The key issues discussed were Ukraine’s defensive actions on the front and operations in Russia’s Kursk region. Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, provided a short report via video link where he claimed that Ukraine controls nearly 1,000 square kilometers of Russia, according to the publicly released fragment of the meeting.


Russian official: 28 settlements of Russia's Kursk Oblast are under Ukraine’s control

Alexei Smirnov, acting Governor of Kursk Oblast in Russia, has informed Russian ruler Vladimir Putin that 28 settlements of Kursk Oblast are "under control of the enemy". At the same time, DeepState analytical project claims that Ukrainian forces are in control of about 44 settlements as of 12 August and the status of 10 more is unknown. 


A Ukrainian warrior recorded a video from Sudzha's central square 

Videos published on social media today confirm Ukraine's full control over the town of Suja in the Kursk Oblast. The footage shows that the city remained intact after it came under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - not compared to Ukrainian cities under Russian occupation.


Russians start fire at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant 

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported that the Russians have started a fire on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. This may be a provocation or an attempt to incite panic. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that its experts observed strong, dark smoke coming from the facility’s northern area following multiple explosions, though no elevated radiation levels were detected.


​​Kadyrov's troops captured by Ukraine after attempting to flee in Kursk

Dozens of fighters loyal to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, have been captured by Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region. According to some reports, the total number of surender Russian troops could reach 1,000 in just one week.
