Ukraine strikes Russian airfields, destroys fighter jets

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that they conducted a large-scale drone strike against Russian airfields in Kursk, Voronezh, Borisoglebsk, and Savasleyka. The combined operation of the Ukrainian security service, military intelligence, and armed forces targeted Russian air bases that were actively used to conduct glide bomb strikes.


Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces reveals how many military facilities in Ukraine were hit by Russian missiles

Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that since 24 February 2022, Russian missiles and drones have hit 11,879 facilities in Ukraine. Most of them are civilian facilities (6,203), and the rest are military (5,676). Syrskyi said that the Russians used 9,590 missiles and 13,997 drones to attack Ukraine, of which 2,429 missiles and 5,972 drones were shot down.


Russian attack on children's café in Zaporizhzhia Oblast on 20 August: 6 children in hospital, 2 in serious condition

On 20 August, Russian forces bombarded a children's café in Malokaterynivka, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. The head of Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration said that a 14-year-old boy was killed, and six other children were injured – boys aged 17, 16, 15 and 14, and girls aged 10 and 11. Three adults, aged 18, 28 and 45, also sustained injuries.


Head of Orthodox Church of Ukraine is ready for dialogue with leader of Russian-linked church and urges believers to reject "Russian yoke"

Metropolitan Epifanii, Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), has stated that the law banning religious organizations associated with the Russian Federation makes it possible to reject the Russian yoke. He urged Orthodox Christians to join the OCU and is ready for a dialogue with Metropolitan Onufrii of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP).


Ukraine's parliament ratifies ICC's Rome Statute

The ratification was supported by 281 lawmakers, with one voting against. President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted a package of bills on the ratification of the statute earlier in August. It will come into force 60 days after being received by the U.N. secretary general. The ratification was adopted with a caveat that Ukraine would not recognize the court's jurisdiction over Ukrainian citizens in the case of war crimes for seven years following its official adoption.


Russia prepares disinformation campaigns targeting Ukrainian refugees in Europe

Russia is planning new disinformation campaigns against Ukrainian refugees in Europe, Vadym Skibitskyi, the deputy head of Ukraine's Defense intelligence, said during an event in Kyiv on August 21. The goal of Russia's new operations is to convince people who left Ukraine because of the war not to return, according to DIU.
