US Embassy: Russia can strike Ukrainian targets before Ukraine's Independence Day

The United States said it has information that Russia is stepping up its efforts to launch both night- and daytime attacks with drones and missiles across Ukraine. The embassy noted that this could happen before Ukraine's Independence Day on 24 August.


EU top diplomat Borrell calls for lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s weapon use in Russia

“Ukraine’s Kursk offensive is a severe blow to Russian President Putin’s narrative,” Borrell stated. He outlined that lifting restrictions would “strengthen Ukrainian self defense by ending Russia’s sanctuary for its attacks and bombardments of Ukrainian cities and infrastructure,” as well as “save lives and reduce destruction in Ukraine,” and “help advance peace efforts.”


IAEA chief Grossi to visit Kursk NPP amid Ukraine’s advances

As Ukrainian troops push into Russia’s Kursk Oblast, the International Atomic Energy Agency raised alarms about the safety of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant’s reactors, similar to those involved in the 1986 Chornobyl disaster. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi is set to inspect the facility’s vulnerabilities firsthand.

Ukrainian soldiers report that another day of their active operations in Russian territory has passed. The soldiers of Ukraine’s Ground Forces keep performing combat missions in Kursk Oblast. The soldiers of the 22nd Separate Mechanised Brigade posted a photo showing more than 15 captured Russians lying on the road.


Rostov Oblast oil depot fire ongoing for 5th day

Emergency services, including over 500 people and special trains, have been battling a fire for the fifth consecutive day at an oil depot in Proletarsk, a town in Russia's Rostov Oblast, following a drone strike on August 18, the Russian state-run media outlet TASS reported on August 22.
