Zelenskyy comments on the possibility of holding elections under martial law

The President of Ukraine said he was ready to join the organization of the elections if partners provide financial support and members of the parliament are ready to make rapid changes to legislation. Previously, he said, the state spent up to ₴5 billion on the elections. It is unknown how much is needed during a full-scale invasion. To hold the elections, observers need to be sent to the frontline to ensure that the soldiers vote, and the electoral process needs to be organized for the seven million Ukrainians abroad. "We need a lawful vote. We need the military to be able to vote. They are defending this democracy today, and it is unfair not to give them this opportunity because of the war," Zelenskyy said.


Child evacuation mandated in two areas of Zaporizhzhia

“We are convening a meeting of the evacuation headquarters today, during which the mandatory evacuation of children from two districts within Zaporizhzhia region – Vasylivskyi and Polohivskyi districts – will be officially declared,” Iryna Vereshchuk said.


Ukrainian drone causes explosion at riot police headquarters in occupied Enerhodar

On Monday, 28 August, there was an explosion at a building where the Russians have set up "barracks" for the OMON [Russia's riot police] in occupied Enerhodar. It was an operation carried out by the local resistance movement in coordination with Ukrainian Intelligence: a drone had hit the building.


Two dead, five injured in Russian missile attacks on Ukraine

Ukraine was rocked by multiple air raid alerts in the early hours of August 28 after Russia launched multiple missile attacks, with two fatalities reported in Poltava Oblast. "A strike targeted a civilian industrial facility in Hoholeve, located within the Myrhorod district of Poltava Oblast. As a result of the attack, two people were killed and five were injured," the President's Chief of Staff, Andriy Yermak, reported this morning.


Drones reportedly strike Russian military airbase in Bryansk region

A military airbase in Russia's Bryansk region came under drone attack in the early hours of August 28, according to reports in local Telegram channels. Russian air defense forces reportedly neutralized the drones. Bryansk Oblast is located along Ukraine’s border, in the north-east of the country.
