First-ever drone strike hits Russia’s Kirov Oblast oil depot at a record 1,500 km from Ukraine

On 28 August, allegedly Ukrainian drones conducted their first attack on Kirov Oblast, Russia, striking an oil storage facility in the city of Kotelnich, approximately 1,500 km from the Ukrainian border. This year, Ukraine has intensified its drone attacks against the Russian oil industry primarily targeting oil refineries, thus significantly disrupting fuel supplies crucial for the Russian military, while simultaneously decreasing the Kremlin’s export revenues. Lately, Ukraine has been striking Russian oil depots, supplying Russian troops with fuel and various military facilities, also focusing on aerial ammunition depots at Russian airfields.


38,000 people remain in Pokrovsk as Russia closes in on the Donetsk Oblast town

Thirty-eight thousands people and 1,900 children remain in Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast as of August 28, as Russian troops are closing in the town, Governor Vadym Filashkin said on the national television. The Pokrovsk sector has been the scene of fierce fighting for several months and a focal point of Russia's offensive in Donetsk Oblast. Filashkin described the situation in the region as "dangerous and very difficult."


The WSJ: Russia relocates 90% of its aircraft to bases outside ATACMS range

A new US intelligence assessment has revealed that since Ukraine began receiving ATACMS missiles, Russia has adapted by relocating 90% of its aircraft to military bases outside the missile's range.


Missile attack on Kryvyi Rih: car service center, vocational training facility and over 230 cars damaged

More than 230 cars have been damaged by blast waves and debris as a result of a morning Russian missile attack on Kryvyi Rih. The number of injured people has risen to nine. A woman, 46, in a moderate condition was provided with medical assistance at the scene.


NATO skeptical about Poland downing Russian air targets over Ukraine – Polish Defence Ministry

Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the decision to allow Russian missiles and combat drones to be shot down in Ukrainian airspace using Polish air defense systems has been met with skepticism among NATO countries. Kosiniak-Kamysz’s statement was made in response to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's words about negotiations with Warsaw on the possibility of shooting down missiles at least over the western part of Ukraine.


Bondholders approve Ukraine's $20 billion debt restructuring

Ukraine has received the necessary votes from private creditors to restructure its more than $20 billion in international bonds, providing the country with the necessary debt relief to continue financing its fight against Russia's invasion. This announcement is a key step in the debt restructuring. The two sides went through multiple rounds of negotiations in June and July over how much and when to repay the debt before coming to an agreement.
