US Congress will not approve any Ukraine aid before the end of the year

The Democratic and Republican leaders of the US Senate said Tuesday, December 19, that Washington will not be able to approve new aid for Ukraine before the year's end, as the two sides continue to seek a compromise. "As negotiators work through remaining issues, it is our hope that their efforts will allow the Senate to take swift action... early in the new year," Democrat Chuck Schumer and Republican Mitch McConnell said in a joint statement.


German Prosecutor General wants to confiscate over $780 million in Russian funds

Germany's Federal Prosecutor General Peter Frank has submitted paperwork to confiscate 720 million euros ($787 million) in Russian funds currently frozen in Germany. The $787 million belongs to a subsidiary of the Moscow Stock Exchange, which the EU sanctioned in June 2022. Germany also froze its assets located in German banks. If the plan comes to fruition, it would mark a change in Germany's position toward Russian assets it holds, as currently Germany has only frozen funds belonging to sanctioned individuals and companies.

US sanctions traders of Russian oil as it tightens price cap

The US sanctioned a Russian-owned ship and several oil traders it said were violating the Group of Seven-backed price cap on Russian oil, ratcheting up its effort to enforce the restrictions in place for the last year.


Eight regions of Ukraine were attacked yesterday

During the day Russians struck settlements in Zaporizhzhia region 190 times in 21 settlements and fired 82 times on Kherson region. At night Russian troops launched a missile attack on the city of Kharkiv, hitting a civilian facility. Hopefully there were no casualties.


France to join training of Ukrainian fighter pilots in 2024

France will begin training Ukrainian pilots on Western fighter jets in early 2024, as the initial part of a training programme that will be continued by European partners. The first pilots will come in early 2024.
