Ukraine's government introduces bill on improving mobilization and military records

Text of a draft law posted on the website of Ukraine's parliament late on Monday proposed lowering the age of those who can be mobilized for combat duty to 25 from 27. Early before the President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told his end-of-year news conference on December 19 that the military had proposed mobilizing 450,000-500,000 more Ukrainians, but that it was a "highly sensitive" issue that the military and government would discuss before deciding whether to send the proposal to parliament.


Zaluzhnyi: Ukrainian General Staff believes it may need 500, 000 mobilized in 2024

“As for this figure (450-500,000), we formulated it for the next year. It takes into account the new military units, and forecasting the losses we may incur next year,” Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces said. 


Zaluzhnyi: Marinka no longer exists

Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi said that the town of Marinka in Donetsk region no longer exists. He said this against the backdrop of statements by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu about the complete capture of Marinka. Zaluzhnyi also said that Ukrainian troops had withdrawn to the outskirts of Marinka in some places and dug in, while in other places they had dug in a little further.


Russian ship destroyed by cruise missiles from tactical aircraft

The Novocherkassk, a large landing ship from the Russian Black Sea Fleet, has been destroyed near Feodosia by cruise missiles from tactical aircraft, Ukraine’s Air Force spokesman reported. Earlier, eyewitnesses reported explosions in the city of Feodosia, occupied Crimea, and the subsequent detonation in the port area.


Russian attack on Kherson railway station kills 1, injures 4

Russian forces attacked a railway station full of people in Kherson late on December 26, killing at least one person and wounding four others, Ukrainian officials said. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that about 140 people were waiting for an evacuation train from heavily shelled Kherson. A police lieutenant evacuating civilians from the attack site was killed, and two more police officers and two civilians were wounded by shrapnel, he added.


Six Ukrainian pilots complete basic training for F-16 flights in the UK

The first six Ukrainian pilots have completed basic training with the UK’s Royal Air Force and are currently learning to fly F-16 fighter jets in Denmark. "I am proud of the support the Royal Air Force is providing to the next generation of Ukraine’s combat air pilots and ground crew, who will be the first line of defense in protecting Ukraine’s skies," UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said.
