During his visit to Kyiv, Rishi Sunak, UK Prime Minister, has announced a large package of military aid for Ukraine worth £2.5 billion (approximately US$3.1 billion). US military aid to Ukraine is suspended until Congress approves funding

US military aid to Ukraine has been suspended until Congress approves new funding. National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby said this during a briefing at the White House. On December 27, 2023, the United States provided the last military aid package for which it had enough money. "The — the assistance that we provided has now ground to a halt.  The attacks that the Russians are conducting are only increasing.  And now, as I talked about earlier this week, they’re using North Korean ballistic missiles to do their dirty work," Kirby said.

Kyrylo Budanov: Neither Ukraine nor Russia can conduct offensive operations

This was stated by the head of Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov, in an interview with Le Monde. According to him, the intensive use of drones by both sides makes it impossible to carry out Russian and Ukrainian offensives. Another factor is the density of minefields, which has not been seen since the World War II. Suppressing drones requires modern electronic warfare, and demining requires specialized equipment. The head of intelligence also noted that Russia "is not starving", despite the sanctions of Western countries, and also called for strikes on key sectors of the Russian economy.

Western sanctions have reduced Russia's purchases of weapons components by only 10%

A study by the Kyiv School of Economics and the Yermak-McFaul Expert Group has shown that sanctions have reduced Russia's purchases of weapons components from Western countries by only 10%. Most goods enter Russia through third countries, mainly China, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates.
