Russia has carried out one of the most powerful combined attacks on Ukraine: 5 civilians killed, 130 injured

The Russians launched 99 missiles of various types at Ukraine on the night of 1-2 January 2024, 72 of which were destroyed. 10 out of 10 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, 59 out of 70 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles and 3 out of 3 Kalibr cruise missiles were shot down by air defense. Five people have been killed and 130 others injured in Ukraine in a large-scale Russian attack on 2 January, with fires still being put out in the city of Kyiv. Power supply has been partially disrupted in some areas of Kyiv and the region. 


Russia damaged civilian high-rise buildings in Kyiv and Kharkiv

Kyiv and Kharkiv came under a massive attack, and explosions were heard in other regions of the country. The invaders launched a strike at the central part of the Kharkiv According to preliminary data, they attacked the Ukrainian city with missiles of the S-300 and Kinzhal systems. A warehouse, a shop, personal belongings in the basement of one of the residential buildings, vehicles, and gas flowing from a damaged gas pipe were on fire. The apartments of 700 people have been damaged in the city of Vyshneve in Kyiv region as a result of a Russian attack. The attack in Kyiv has damaged residential high-rise buildings, warehouses, a supermarket, a market, a car service station, private homes and vehicles. 


Russian launched more than 500 various missiles and drones over 5 days

In a phone conversation on Tuesday, 2 January, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that Russia has fired at least 500 missiles and drones on Ukraine over the past five days.


Zaluzhnyi thanks Western partners for air defense supplies

Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has expressed his gratitude to Western partners for providing the air defense systems that have shot down a record number of Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, stressing that Ukraine needs more effective anti-ballistic weapons, as there is no reason to assume that Russia will stop.


EU Council President says Russian attacks on Ukraine prove Russia's unwillingness to negotiate

"For anybody believing the rumours that Russia is genuinely interested in peace talks, the record number of drones fired in the last 24 hours at Ukraine show the true intention of Moscow," the European Council President Charles Michele said.


Türkiye will not let UK's minehunters gifted to Ukraine into Black Sea

Türkiye has denied reports that it has allowed two minehunters handed over to Ukraine by the UK to enter the Black Sea.
