Zelenskyy: Russia has launched counteroffensive in Kharkiv region

“Russia has launched a new wave of counteroffensives in this direction. Ukraine met them there with our troops, brigades and artillery,” the head of state said. Ukraine’s military command was aware of the enemy's plans and calculated its forces. A fierce battle is now underway in this sector.


MoD: Russian forces attempt Kharkiv breakthrough, Ukrainian forces hold the ground

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reports that around 5 am, the Russian army attempted to break through Ukraine’s line of defense, covered by armored vehicles. To bolster the defense on this section of the front, “reserve units have been directed” to the area. 


CCD: The main strike will be in Donetsk Region - Chasiv Yar, Pokrovsk and Kurakhovo

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of Ukraine’s NSDC, Kovalenko, said that the situation in Kharkiv region was a diversionary maneuver for Ukraine to transfer troops there from other directions. According to him, the Russians have resources to further aggravate the situation in the north of Kharkiv and Sumy regions.


No territory lost in Kharkiv region, local authorities say

All Russian offensive assaults in the northern part of Kharkiv region had been repulsed, says Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Region Military Administration, and no territory had been lost. Syniehubov also called on the people living in the bordering territories to evacuate. “Currently, Russia is destabilizing the border areas. But it is unknown how many main forces he is ready to use for this maneuver… Such actions by the Russian army were expected. The units of the Defense Forces, which are directly holding positions along the border, were expecting them even more,” he said.


Civilian casualties reported amid intense Russian attacks in Kharkiv region

A morning attack left two civilians injured in Vovchansk, a town situated 50 kilometers (35 miles) northeast of Kharkiv and just 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the border with Russia. Vovchansk was under Russian occupation from February to September 2022. A 55-year-old man was killed at around 12:50 p.m. local time in Cherkasy Tyshki, a village located just outside of Kharkiv, around 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the Russian border. Later in the afternoon, another attack on Vovchansk killed a civilian man and injured three other people.


Ukrainian top general says critical phase of war to come in next two months

Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk, the head of Ukraine’s ground forces, says Russia has not abandoned its ambition to seize Kyiv. According to him, Ukraine plans to create ten new brigades to prepare for a Russian offensive. Some of them will be formed for the potential defense of Kyiv. General Pavliuk anticipates that the critical phase of the war will unfold over the next two months. As American aid slowly reaches the front lines, Russian commanders are deploying all available combat resources to challenge Ukraine’s exhausted and undersupplied forces. Pavliuk emphasizes that Russia is aware that a significant influx of weaponry within the next month or two could turn the situation in Ukraine’s favor.


Biden approves US$400 million in military aid to Ukraine

This act includes the provision of weapons from US Army warehouses, but the list has not yet been made public.


Germany to purchase HIMARS systems from US for Ukraine

During the German Defense Minister's visit to the US, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that Germany, with $7.7 billion in aid for Ukraine in 2024, is the second-largest donor after the USA. Boris Pistorius, chief of German MoD announced that Germany will purchase 3 HIMARS systems from the US for Ukraine.
