Zaluzhnyi: Ukraine needs new military capabilities as war moves to attritional fighting

Ukraine's commander-in-chief said on Wednesday the war with Russia was moving to a new stage of positional warfare involving static and attritional fighting, a phase he warned could benefit Moscow and allow it to rebuild its military power. In an article for The Economist, top general Valery Zaluzhnyi said the Ukrainian army needed key new military capabilities and technology, including air power, to break out of that kind of war. He also called for Ukraine to build up its army reserves and expand the categories of Ukrainian citizens who can be called up for training or to be mobilized.


Group of Republicans sets conditions for Biden to continue supporting Ukraine

In a letter to President Joe Biden, eight US House Republicans have set their conditions for further assistance to Ukraine and called for additional funding for Israel to be set aside. They stressed that Israel and Ukraine must win, and "that much is clear". However, according to the text, "American taxpayers have become weary of funding a never-ending stalemate in Ukraine with no vision for victory".


One civilian dead, four injured in relentless Russian shelling of Nikopol and Kherson

One woman was killed and four more were injured after Russian invasion forces launched a kamikaze drone attack on Nikopol. The invaders also shelled the center of Kherson around 9:00 a.m. An employee of the city military administration was killed by a shell, while two colleagues were injured.


Former Wagner mercenaries among new National Guard unit being formed at 10,000-tent camp in Zaporizhzhia region

Russian forces in Ukraine are in the process of forming new units within the Russian National Guard, known as Rossgvardiya, with the aim of conducting “counter-sabotage measures,” Ukraine’s National Resistance Center (NRC) reported. The groups will consist of individuals affiliated with the now-defunct Wagner private military company, as well as newly recruited members.


70% of Russians would support Putin's decision to end war in Ukraine

Survey of the Russian analytical service Levada Center showed that 70% of respondents would support Putin's decision if he decided to end the war in Ukraine. However, if Putin decided to end the war with the occupied territories returning to Ukraine, only 34% of Russians would support his actions.
