On October 1, a video showing 16 Ukrainian servicemen coming out of a dugout and surrendering as prisoners of war appeared in Telegram channels. After the soldiers lined up, the occupants opened fire. Preliminary, the execution happened on the Pokrovsky direction. At the moment, this is the biggest case of execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russians on the front line.
Ukraine faces 'very challenging' situation on front lines, Zelensky says
President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Ukraine faces a "very challenging" situation on the front lines, adding that "everything that can be done this fall, everything we can achieve, we must achieve." Speaking during his daily address on Sept. 30, Zelensky said he had held more than two-and-a-half hours of talks with Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and Chief of the General Staff Anatolii Barhylevych that day. "The situation is very challenging," Zelensky said, adding: "The most important thing is to put pressure on Russia using all available means and tools to achieve our goal of a real and just peace for Ukraine and all our people as soon as possible."
Foreign Ministry refutes FT report that minister discussed territorial compromises
Ukraine's new Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha did not discuss territorial compromises with Russia in recent meetings with his Western counterparts, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said on October 1, refuting a report by the Financial Times (FT) that he had discussed "potential compromise solutions." "I attended every single meeting of Foreign Minister Sybiha in New York, and no territorial compromises were suggested, discussed, or even hinted at during any of the meetings," Tykhyi said. "To the contrary, the Minister’s position is rock solid and he emphasized it behind closed doors," Tykhyi said. "There can be no compromise on Ukraine's sovereignty or territorial integrity."
Russians attack Kherson market over morning, killing 7 people
The occupiers attacked the market in the center of Kherson. They hit the retail units where Kherson residents were buying or selling products in the morning. The attack reportedly killed seven people: three women and four men. Three citizens were also injured and are being provided with expert medical care.
New NATO Chief Mark Rutte vows support for Ukraine’s path to membership in Alliance
The new Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, has promised to fulfill the commitments made to Ukraine by the Alliance, particularly regarding the irreversibility of its path to joining NATO. “There can be no lasting security in Europe without a strong, independent Ukraine. I know from personal experience, after the downing of flight MH17 in 2014, that the conflict in Ukraine is not limited to the front line. So we must do our part,” emphasized Rutte.
