Ukrainian journalist Viktoriia Roshchyna dies in Russian captivity

Ukrainian journalist Viktoriia Roshchyna has reportedly died in Russian captivity. The information regarding her death has been confirmed by Petro Yatsenko, head of the press service for the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Roshchyna went missing in the occupied territories of Ukraine in August 2023. Roshchyna had been on the front lines since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On March 16, 2022, news emerged about the journalist's detention by representatives of the Russian Federal Security Service. The International Women's Media Foundation reported that Viktoriia Roshchyna went missing on August 3 while covering a story in the temporarily occupied territories.


Zelenskyy meets UK PM Starmer and NATO chief Rutte in London for crucial talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in London on 10 October for crucial talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The visit is part of Zelenskyy’s ongoing efforts to secure increased military support from Western allies in the face of continued Russian aggression. According to a Downing Street spokesperson, Prime Minister Starmer was expected to reiterate the UK’s “ironclad support for Ukraine” during the meeting.


Russia received over 300 shipments for military needs from German companies

According to Russian customs documents obtained by the German television company SWR, it was revealed that by the end of December 2023, more than 300 shipments from German manufacturers had been delivered to Russia. Most of them are large industrial machines or so-called CNC machines. These computer-controlled machines can, for example, cut steel, bend sheet metal or weld metal parts fully automatically.


Mi5 chief warns of Russia's intelligence plotting “mayhem” on UK and European streets

Ken McCallum, the Director General of the Security Service (MI5), has warned of threats emanating from Russia's GRU . He stated that Russia seeks to generate “sustained mayhem” on British and European streets by resorting to sabotage, arson and other dangerous actions.


AP: Russia dupes African women into making drones for its war in Ukraine

Russia is actively recruiting women from Africa and South Asia to work in factories producing Iranian-designed attack drones for use in Ukraine, according to a report by AP. AP says women aged 18-22 from countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria are being recruited through social media campaigns promising European adventure and work-study programs. However, upon arrival in Russia’s Tatarstan region, many discover they will be working in a weapons factory.


International Criminal Court may investigate Belarus' involvement in deportation of Ukrainian children

Belarus’ suspected involvement in the deportation of Ukrainian children falls under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC), even though Minsk has not signed the Rome Statute. Human rights activists urged the ICC to launch an investigation into Belarus and Russia, citing evidence that hundreds of Ukrainian children have been forcibly moved to Belarus since the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion.
