Zelensky unveils Ukraine's victory plan, says it's doable but 'depends on our partners'

President Volodymyr Zelensky presented Ukraine's much-debated victory plan at parliament on October 16, though some parts remained classified. The proposal consists of five points: an invitation to join NATO, a defense aspect, deterrence of Russian aggression, economic growth and cooperation, and post-war security architecture. The plan involves three secret addenda that have been shared with international partners.


ISW: North Korean military aid could allow Putin to avoid mobilization

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on 16 October that Russia may leverage its recent strategic partnership agreement with North Korea to bolster its military forces without resorting to massive mobilization. This assessment comes after Ukrainian intelligence reports claiming the formation of a 3,000-strong North Korean battalion within the Russian 11th Airborne Brigade.

"In the coalition of criminals alongside Putin, North Korea—led by the Kim family, which enslaves over 20 million Koreans—has now joined. Our intelligence reports indicate not only the transfer of weapons from North Korea to Russia but also the dispatch of people. These workers are meant to replace Russians who have been killed in the war, as well as to bolster the personnel of the Russian army," the President stated.


Scholz says he is open to talk to Putin about peace in Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told lawmakers in Berlin on Oct. 16 that he is willing to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin about a "just peace" in Ukraine. Scholz emphasized that he would speak to Putin "if asked" but stressed that no decisions would be made without the input of Ukraine or other Western allies.


Australia to give Ukraine almost 50 US-made Abrams tanks

Australia will donate Ukraine 49 "soon-to-be-retired" U.S.-made Abrams tanks, the Australian media outlet ABC News reported, citing Defense Industry Minister Pat Conroy.


Modern Russian weapons discovered in Hezbollah tunnels

Recent investigations have uncovered a significant cache of Russian weaponry in tunnels used by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, as reported by various sources including the research center Alma and BILD. Specifically, among the captured items are 9M133 Kornet anti-tank missiles and Igla-S surface-to-air missile systems, which were produced between 2015 and 2021. Additionally, components of rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) were found with production dates from 2018 to 2021.
