Zelenskyy: North Korea preparing two brigades of 6,000 soldiers each
Ukraine has received intelligence indicating that North Korea is preparing two military units, possibly brigades, to support Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine. This information was shared by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his evening address. According to Zelenskyy, the preparation of these North Korean troops is a significant challenge. “We have information about the preparation of two units, which may even be two brigades of 6,000 soldiers each. This is a challenge, but we know how to respond to it. It’s crucial that our partners do not shy away from this challenge as well. All of our partners,” Zelenskyy said.
Parliament approves up to €35 billion loan to Ukraine backed by Russian assets
On Tuesday, MEPs gave their green light to an extraordinary loan of up to €35 billion to Ukraine, to be repaid with future revenues from frozen Russian assets. This loan is the EU’s part of a G7 package agreed last Ju ne, to provide up to $50 billion (approximately €45 billion) in financial support to Ukraine. The final amount that the EU will contribute could be lower, depending on the size of the loans provided by other G7 partners.
UK to provide Ukraine with $2.9 billion military loan, to be repaid with proceeds from frozen Russian assets
The U.K.'s loan will be allocated to Ukraine's military spendings. Kyiv will be able to invest in key equipment to fight Russia, such as artillery, air defense, and wider equipment support, the statement read.
Germany 'skeptical' about Ukraine's NATO membership
Germany still "has skepticism" about Ukraine joining NATO, fearing Russia's reaction, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists. Zelenskyy stressed that a majority of NATO countries have reached a consensus on an invitation for Ukraine to join the alliance, which would be granted within the internationally recognized borders of the country. "Today we see support from France. We understand that the British will support us, and we believe that the Italians will support us," the president said.
US announces new "strong sanctions" against Russia
According to the US Treasury Secretary, further penalties will be "targeting those facilitating the Kremlin's war machine, including intermediaries in third countries that are supplying Russia with critical inputs for its military."
