Russian attacks against Ukraine kill 4, injure 33 over past day

Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least four people and injured at least 33 over the past day, including children, regional authorities reported on October 7. Ukrainian air defenses shot down two Kinzhal missiles launched against Kyiv Oblast and 32 attack drones across various regions, the Air Force said. Russia reportedly attacked Ukraine with 80 projectiles, including an Iskander-M ballistic missile, a guided Kh-59 missile, and one more missile of an unknown type.


Russian soldiers execute 3 surrendering Ukrainians, reports Azov Brigade

Russian soldiers executed three surrendering Ukrainian servicemen in Donetsk Oblast, according to the Azov Brigade. Drone footage released as evidence shows three individuals with green armbands emerging from a basement, lying down, and being shot. This marks the third video in a week depicting the execution of Ukrainian POWs. 


Ukraine will not extend agreement on Russian gas transit – Ukrainian PM

Ukrainian PM Denys Shmyhal has reported that Ukraine will not extend the Russian gas transit contract after it expires in 2025. Ukraine's strategic goal is to impose sanctions on the Russian gas industry and deprive the Kremlin of profits from the sale of hydrocarbons. "We understand the acute dependence of some countries, in particular Slovakia, on this resource. But we are counting on gradual diversification of supplies," Shmyhal said.


Russia strikes foreign civilian grain ship in Odesa region

On October 6, Russian military forces targeted the Pivdennyi port in Odesa region, Ukraine, damaging the civilian ship PARESA, which is registered under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The vessel was carrying approximately 6,000 tons of Ukrainian corn intended for export. All 15 crew members, who are citizens of Egypt and Syria, were unharmed in the attack.


Russian state-linked arms dealer preparing deal with Yemen's Houthis

Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout is suspected to be preparing a small arms deal with Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militants, The Wall Street Journal reported on October 6. Viktor Bout gained fame in 2005 after a movie titled "Lord of War," allegedly portraying his life of selling weapons for decades to Middle Eastern, South American, and African clients before he was arrested in 2008 and imprisoned in the U.S. The arms dealer was released almost two years ago in a prisoner exchange with Russia for U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner. He is suspected of being in talks with the Houthi militia after they went to Moscow in August to negotiate the purchase of $10 million worth of automatic weapons.


UK Pledges £3.5 Billion to Ukraine for British-Made Military Equipment

A UK trade mission, formed of representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business and Trade, and the defense trade association ADS, visited Ukraine to hold meetings with the Ukrainian Government and industry representatives. This mission is a continuation of the agreement signed in July 2024, which will allow Ukraine to spend 3.5 billion pounds on the purchase of modern military equipment from Britain.
